The Lakes to Ocean Trail (LOT) is an approximately 3,000 mile long hiking trail from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic and spans wilderness and urban areas. It was created by Scot "Taba" Ward,[1] and connects five pre-existing long trails with Rail Trails (bicycle greenways), backcountry roads, and shorter existing trails. The eastern section of the trail offers two separate routes.[2]
The LOT consists of the following eight sections:[3]
- The Hoosier Trail of Indiana -- 420 miles from Chicago to Louisville, Kentucky.
- The Kentucky Connection -- 175 mile road walk from Louisville, Kentucky to the Daniel Boone National Forest.
- The Sheltowee Trace
- The Tennessee Connector -- Road and trails connecting Tennessee to the Bartram Trail. Includes a section of the Appalachian Trail.
- The Bartram Trail
- The Palmetto Trail
- The Foothills Trail
- The Mountains to Sea Trail
The LOT is maintained by the Friends of the Lakes to Ocean Trail (FLOTA).
