Campo, California is a small town located close to the southern terminus of the Pacific Crest Trail.
Getting to Campo
Campo is located approximately 50 miles east of San Diego, California. Rome2Rio offers details on getting to Campo from San Diego, as does the website of the Pacific Crest Trail Association.
By car
It takes approximately 1 hour and 15 mins to drive from central San Diego to Campo.
By public transport
Campo is served 3 times a day (not weekends) by bus route 894, from El Cajon Transit Center in eastern San Diego. San Diego Metropolitan Transit Systems provides more information on times and fares (PDF, 3.2MB).
The El Cajon stop on the San Diego Trolley's Orange Line provides access to El Cajon Transit Center. From downtown San Diego, the journey takes approximately 40 minutes.
Facilities
Campo is a small town with limited facilities. There is currently a Post Office and a small general store offering a basic selection of foods and supplies. Not that the store often runs out of gas canisters in hiking season, so if needed, it is wise to pick up gas before arriving in Campo.
Camping
Hikers are usually allowed to camp behind the Stone Store Museum in town before starting their hike. Enquire at the general store before setting up your tent.
